Threads of Resistance:
Wear the Words. Defend Democracy.

Discover the collection of apparel inspired by Timothy Snyder's On Tyranny, and offered for sale with Dr. Snyder's express permission. Each design represents a powerful rule for resisting authoritarianism, crafted to inspire action and spark conversation.

Together, we can make a statement that matters.

The story of how these designs came to be

In 2020, as COVID and Donald raged, I turned to a creative outlet to keep my sanity: designing art inspired by the chapter titles from On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century - a 2017 book by Timothy Snyder, a historian of 20th-century Europe. What started as a deeply personal project to process and resist authoritarianism took on new meaning when a fellow listener of The Daily Beans Podcast suggested I reach out to Timothy Snyder for permission to share these designs, after seeing one I shared in a Facebook group. She wanted to be able to wear a T-shirt with the 'Do Not Obey in Advance' design. After some thinking, and after attending the Nebraska Book Awards with a close friend and author to accept the Gold Medal Design I was awarded this year for my cover design of my friend J.D. James' memoir about her breast cancer experience. That award and the experience of accepting it with one of my closest friends gave me the courage to reach out to Dr. Snyder with my idea about this line of designs, and the possibility of offering them for sale in the world. To my delight, he not only said yes but enthusiastically endorsed the project! After connecting with his agent, I started working on making this a reality.

I will do my best to reply to any emails or contacts via social media as quickly as possible. Please be understanding as I am a one-woman show and handle everything myself.

If you haven't read On Tyranny, I can't recommend it enough!
